Starting May 1, 2017 International Flight Garuda Moves To Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 3

05 Apr 2017

TERMINAL 3 Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be increasingly crowded. On May 1, 2017, the terminal became the location of the operation of the international flight Garuda Indonesia.

"In our design, approximately 15 April 2017 we provide recommendations, after that Garuda will prepare for 2 weeks, approximately 1 May Garuda International can already move in Terminal 3," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya.

The Budi Karya Menhub statement confirmed Angkasa Pura II Managing Director Muhammad Awaluddin, when delivering his presentation at the 2017 National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) forum, on air connectivity in the Indonesian Incorporated at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, March 30-31. "On May 1, 2017 Garuda Indonesia, which has an international route moved to terminal 3, then the July 2017 skytrax group will also move to terminal 3 as well," explained M Awaluddin.

With 2 runways, according to Awaluddin, currently Soekarno Hatta Airport has 72 aircraft movements. He targets that October 2017 will be in 80 movements, and January 2017 will rise again to 86 movements. "I am sure 2017, Soekarno Hatta will carry 100 million passengers per year. January 2017 alone has 15 million more, up 14-15% from the previous year. Well, managing the airport with 30 million, 50 million and 100 million is a challenge and the problem is different ! " The initial word when it was peeling debottlenecking the airport.

Minister of Transportation Budi said, before actually recommending the transfer of international flight services to Garuda Indonesia, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) asked the state-owned airline to prepare all of its operational infrastructure.

After that, the evaluation will be carried out by the Ministry of Transportation. Budi said that the evaluation was related to the readiness of international flights in Terminal 3. It was indeed a procedure for the government to permit terminal operations.

"If you want to operate, many things are prepared, such as simulating several activities, from checking in to raising passengers to the plane. We also do baggage simulations," he said.

Based on the records of the Ministry of Transportation, the readiness of facilities and infrastructure in Terminal 3 specifically for international flights has reached 90%. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia's international flights that will move to the Terminal are around 26 flights.

"So 26 Garuda International flights will move to Terminal 3, God willing, we will clarify within 2 weeks, after that Garuda prepares," he said.

The use of Terminal 3 was actually officially used in August 2016. However, the utilization of the terminal is done in stages because not all parts of the building have been completed.

Garuda Indonesia President Director Arif Wibowo said that with the operation of this international terminal 3, tourists traveling on Garuda Indonesia airlines, which connect domestic and international flights and vice versa, do not have to bother switching terminals anymore. So far, Garuda Indonesia international flights still use Terminal 2.

"Through the terminal we will make this one we will build a better hub," he said.

The policy could encourage the performance of Soekarno-Hatta airport managed by PT Angkasa Pura II (APII) in inviting foreign tourists. The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) led by Menpar Arief Yahya, this year mandated AP II to invite 700,000 foreign tourists to Indonesia through the airports it manages. ***
