The Ministry of Transportation Completes Four New Airports This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Air Relations Directorate will complete four new airports this year. The four airports are part of 15 airports that are targeted to be completed during 2015-2019.

"As many as 10 new airports have operated and served flights in 2018, this year there will be four new airports in 2019," said Directorate General of Air Relations, Polana B Pramasti when met at the Ministry of Transportation, Central Jakarta, Friday, February 1, 2019.

Palona said, the four new airport projects were located in Siau in North Sulawesi, Riau Tembelan Islands Airport, Maura Taweh Airport, Central Kalimantan and Pantar Airport, East Nusa Tenggara.

While 10 airports that were completed last year were airports in Anambas, Morowali, Maratua, Miangas, Namniwel Koroway Batu, Kertajati, Samarinda Baru, Tambelan and Werur.

Polana said that besides the addition of the airport, the Directorate General of Air Relations is also developing at various airports, such as the development of terminals and runways. According to Polana this development is prioritized at airports in the Economic, Special, Industrial Zone, to tourism areas.

This year, said Polana, the Ministry of Transportation is targeting 162 million airline passengers. Nevertheless the growth rate of air transport passengers in 2018 decreased 10 percent compared to the previous year.
