Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesia finally has a special terminal for low-cost airlines called the low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT).
On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the 2F Terminal of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport will start operating as an LCCT which specifically serves international flights.
In total, there will be 8 LCCs serving international routes from LCC Terminal 2F.
PT Angkasa Pura II Managing Director Muhamad Awaluddin said the LCC Terminal 2F made Soekarno-Hatta able to further expand connectivity and market share, especially in the low-cost airline segment.
"The LCC segment is growing rapidly throughout the world, including in Southeast Asia, and Soekarno-Hatta is preparing to reach the market," said Muhammad Awaluddin in Jakarta on Friday (4/26/2019).
The LCC passengers specifically for international routes in Soekarno-Hatta in 2018 accounted for around 30 percent of the total 15.5 million passengers on the international route.
Passengers in the LCC segment at Soekarno-Hatta are also still growing, where the year-to-date period of January 1 to April 24 2019 was recorded at 1.32 million people, up almost 2 percent compared to January 1-April 24 2018 as many as 1.34 million people .
Meanwhile the movement of aircraft on January 1-April 24 2019 reached 9,604 movements, up 5.03 percent compared to January 1-April 24 2018.
"Cheap flights are a trend among travelers, especially those who belong to the millennial generation. At Soekarno-Hatta itself, around 60 percent of aircraft passengers are millennial generation, "Awaluddin added.
Awaluddin said that LCC Terminal 2F was designed to suit the needs of travelers who prioritize practicality, speed and convenience.
In order to meet this need, the number of check-in desks at LCC Terminal 2F will be reduced from 20 units in 2020 to 10 units by 2022. On the other hand, the number of self-check-in facilities is increased to 40 units.
Along with that, the drop self bag facility was added from 10 units in 2020, to 20 units by 2022.
"Services focus on digitalization such as web check-in, self check-in and self bag drop. We call this technology implementation for value added services. Various technology-based services are also constantly updated, "he said.
In general, LCC Terminal 2F is designed to realize a fast departure process, a pleasant travel experience, and different value-added services than usual.
The activation program at the terminal will also be an important part of service to the millennial traveler.
Not only that, the LCC airline also received a landing rates incentive if it opened a new international route plus free promotion on Angkasa Pura II's digital media and social media.
LCC 2F Terminal itself is part of a comprehensive revitalization in Terminal 2.
"Currently Terminal 2 has a capacity of 9 million passengers per year, after the revitalization is over in 2022, the capacity will increase to 24 million passengers per year," Awaluddin concluded.
Along with that, the operational relocation of airlines in Soekarno-Hatta was carried out as follows:
• AirAsia international routes from now on Terminal 2D moves to Terminal 2F starting May 1, 2019
• Cebu Pacific from now Terminal 2D moves to Terminal 2F starting May 1, 2019
• Lion Air Group (Lion Air, Thai Lion, Malindo) international routes from now Terminal 2D moves to Terminal 2F starting May 1 2019
• Jetstar Asia from now Terminal 3 moves to Terminal 2F starting May 15, 2019
• Sriwijaya Air from now Terminal 2F moves to Terminal 2D starting May 1, 2019
• AirAsia domestic routes from now on Terminal 2F moves to Terminal 2D / E starting May 1, 2019
In addition, Citilink and Tiger Scoot will later also move to Terminal 2F later.
