Jokowi Review Runway 3 of Soetta Airport: July Can Be Operated

21 Jun 2019

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reviewed the construction of runway 3 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang. On this occasion, Jokowi hoped the runway 3 could be operational starting in July 2019.

"We hope that by the end of this month one hundred percent will be immediately rationalized as soon as possible, maybe July has already been operational," Jokowi said on location on Friday (6/21).

Construction of the runway 3 of Soetta Airport has now reached 86 percent. Jokowi hopes that the additional runway built can increase flight capacity to 120 flights per hour.

Currently, said Jokowi, aircraft movements at Soetta Airport are only 81-83 flights per hour. Jokowi said that the airport runway construction would increase flight movement capacity by up to 50 percent.

"Now with capacity, we now have 81 movements per hour with the addition of the third runway to 120 movements per hour. The addition is huge," Jokowi said.

"The addition is 50 percent, adding 50 percent so there are a lot of requests from airlines from other countries. From Qatar, from Saudi, India, Singapore, Malaysia, from China and Japan all want to enter. Full of slots," Jokowi explained.

Jokowi hopes that this runway 3 can reduce waiting time or queue for planes in the air to land at Soetta Airport.

The constructed Runway 3 is 3,000 x 60 square meters and there are parallel taxiways. In addition to runway construction, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) is also planning the construction of Soetta Airport Terminal 4.

Jokowi said that terminal 4 will begin construction in 2021. It is estimated that construction will take around 3 years to build. It is targeted to be completed by 2024 and can accommodate more than 100 million passengers per year.

"Later we expect here to be able to accommodate 110 million passengers with a fourth terminal plus. This is indeed very fast flight growth," Jokowi said.

"If the construction of the runway and the construction of the East Cross Taxiway are not pursued, the construction of the terminal will not be pursued, it will be the same for the first time. Infrastructure must precede the existing growth," said Jokowi.
