Today, Kertajati Airport Begins to Serve 12 Domestic Routes

01 Jul 2019

TEMPO.CO, Majalengka - After being inaugurated for almost a month, West Java International Airport (BIJB), aka Kertajati Airport, today finally officially opened its first major flight to 12 domestic routes. Four airlines, namely Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Air Asia Indonesia, and Lion Air, will serve passengers with a total of 19 flights at the airport.

"In total there are actually five airlines, but today only four, because Express Air is only serving passengers on July 7," said the Executive General Manager of Angkasa Pura II, Kertajati Ibut Astono Airport Branch when met at Kertajati Airport, Majalengka Regency, West Java, Monday, July 1, 2019.

The 12 routes served by Kertajati Airport today are four Sumatra destinations, namely Medan; Palembang, Padang and Pekanbaru. Then one in the Riau Islands, namely in Batam. Then three in Kalimantan, namely Pontianak, Banjarmasin and Balikpapan; plus one on Java, namely Surabaya. In addition, there are also Denpasar and Lombok routes.

Previously, the airport had been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi since May 24, 2019. Initially, there were six airlines operating namely Lion Air, Garuda Indonesia, Nam Air, Sriwijaya Air, Wings Air, and Citilink. However, one by one the airline left and left Citilink alone. The loneliness of passengers at Kertajati Airport is one of the causes of the airline leaving.

But now, the Ministry of Transportation has decided to move all domestic routes from Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung City, to Kertajati Airport. Displacement is effective from today. So, passengers from Bandung who had been riding at Husein Airport had to go to Kertajati Airport.

Nevertheless, Ibut asked users not to worry because Angkasa Pura II and Perum Damri had cooperated to provide transportation that would carry passengers from and to Kertajati Airport. Damri buses are intentionally parked at the passenger entrance so they can be accessed directly by passengers who have just landed at Kertajati.

At present, there are two Damri routes that cover passengers, namely towards Bandung and Cirebon. Damri serves passengers who come to Kertajati Airport at the earliest and most nights. "We serve all passengers to the last," he said.

Not only that, a total of 10 shuttle buses from the private sector have also begun to work with Angkasa Pura II to transport passengers to and from Kertajati Airport. Ibut said, there is one shuttle manager that even serves two to three passenger routes, such as Majalengka, Kuningan, and Sumedang, in West Java.
