Developing UKM and Startup, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Establishes SMMILE Center

24 Nov 2019

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) encourages Soekarno-Hatta International Airport not only as a place to get on and off planes, but more than that it becomes the center of economic activity and growth. Therefore, PT Angkasa Pura II repositioned and rebranded the Halal Park area in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta into a Small, Micro & Medium Business Incubator with Learning and Experience (SMMILE) Center.

The SMMILE Center is currently managed directly by a subsidiary of PT Angkasa Pura II, PT Angkasa Pura Solusi, and has a mission as a center for development and training activities for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector. The area is projected to provide support for SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprise / SME), starting from the incubation program (SME Experience Center), then training (SME Traning Center), to financing (SME Financial Center).

Acting Director of PT Angkasa Pura Solusi Yundriati Erdani said the development program at the SMMILE Center reaches conventional SMEs to Digital SMEs or Digital Start Ups.

"Aside from being a center for SME incubation, training and financing, the SMMILE Center area is also a marketing area for SME products and services. Soekarno-Hatta is the busiest airport in Indonesia with 60-70 million passenger flights per year so that it has the potential to support SME growth , "Yundriati said in a written statement, Sunday (11/24/2019).

"We are trying to make SMEs including startups able to develop and grow professionally and sustainably. A number of strategies have been prepared so that our efforts are achieved," Yundriati explained.

One strategy is to open up opportunities for cooperation with the Santri Millennial Center (SIMAC). PT Angkasa Pura Solusi and SIMAC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an initial step in working together at the SMILE Center.

"The collaboration between PT Angkasa Pura Solusi and SIMAC can be an added value for the SMMILE Center to develop SMEs in the field of community-based social economy," Yundriati explained.

Angkasa Pura Solusi is currently also discussing strategies to make the SMMILE Center the center for developing Digital SMEs or start up in line with the spirit of PT Angkasa Pura II, which is campaigning for digitalization in every area of service and airport operations. From the retail side, the SMMILE Center will become a center for selling cheap groceries targeting individual and corporate markets.

The SMMILE Center Area is located in an area of 8,000 square meters with 40 modular tenants that can be used by businesses to market their products and services. In this area Coworking Space (APSPACE) is also available for training places for SMEs in order to expand market access through digitizing SMEs.

There is also a plaza area available for promotional activities, product demonstrations and marketing events for SMEs. In the near future, a financial financing center facility will be built for SMEs who will work with one of the banks. Not to forget, the implementation of the O2O concept (offline to online) with a digital platform is also being developed so that later products and services at the SMMILE Center can also be accessed online through the Indonesia Airports Mobile App and via social media.
