Jakarta - Silangit International Airport is ready to welcome more local and foreign tourists who want to vacation on Lake Toba.

Following this, the aircraft passenger terminal at Silangit Airport will be expanded five times or from the current 2,500 square meters to 10,499 square meters.

The terminal expansion makes Silangit Airport able to accommodate movements of up to 1 million passengers per year, from now only around 500,000 passengers.

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) 's President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the expansion of the terminal was needed because at present the number of passenger movements had almost touched existing capacity.

"The terminal at Silangit Airport must be expanded to a capacity of 1 million passengers per year. Since Silangit Airport has been revitalized and there are direct flights from Jakarta, tourism in the Lake Toba region has indeed grown quite rapidly, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

"Silangit Airport is the main access for tourists to travel to Lake Toba which is designated as one of the 'New Bali' destinations. Therefore, AP II is committed to maintaining and increasing the level of service at Silangit Airport through various infrastructure developments. "

In addition to the expansion of the passenger terminal, the runway at Silangit Airport was also developed from 2,400 x 30 m to 2,650 m x 45 m. Development of the runway is nothing but so that the airport can be landed by Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft.

The movement of the aircraft at Silangit Airport itself has also always increased from 2,695 (2016), then 3,787 (2017) and 4,878 (2018).

To support airport operations, AP II will also expand the motorized vehicle parking area to 8,231 square meters and build a cargo warehouse of 2,250 square meters.

Specifically for cargo movement, in 2016 it was only 12,258 tons, then increased to 121,487 tons (2017) and then around 440,329 tons (2018).
