TANGERANG, JULY 6, 2018 - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with more than 63 million passengers per year is the busiest airport in Indonesia, and even now it is considered the 17th busiest airport in the world by Airport Council International.
This can be seen from the number of passenger movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the first semester (January - June 2018) which reached 32,424,261 passengers or grew by 9% compared to the same period in 2017, which was 29,837,845 passengers.
Other growth was also seen in terms of aircraft movements, namely an increase of 28.9%, where Soekarno-Hatta International Airport had served 229,120 aircraft movements compared to the previous year, which was only 177,686 aircraft movements.
With the rapid increase in traffic this has the potential to cause several problems at the Soekarno-Hatta airport, namely the low On-Time Performance of airline airlines, the lack of effective aircraft movements on the airside and also the less optimal use of flight slots.
Seeing the growth of passengers and aircraft, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) rushed to complete the transition of airport operations management with a technology approach, namely completing the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) project and increasing airside capacity by building East Cross Taxiway (ECT) and building a third runway in order to make Soekarno-Hatta International Airport a Smart Airport and increase its competitiveness among other airports in the Southeast Asia region.
Vice President of Corporate Communication PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), Yado Yarismano said, "The construction of the AOCC, ECT and the third runway is based on the growth of the airline industry which is quite significant each year and makes operational dynamics more diverse. Through AOCC, which can monitor all activities at the airport in real time, we are optimistic that all aspects running smoothly according to regulations are accompanied by the creation of punctuality in operations which results in improved service to airlines and airline passengers. "
The existence of AOCC at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport later will be able to improve the quality of airport operational services, including in terms of increasing On Time Performance (OTP) airlines flights, optimizing flight slots at airports, and more effective and efficient ground time.
Besides the existence of the AOCC, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport which currently has two runways capable of serving aircraft movements reaching 1,300 movements per day or around 81 aircraft movements per hour with nearly 200,000 passengers per day, East Cross Taxiway will be built in the future increasing runway quality to up to 86 aircraft movements per hour and also with the construction of the third runway Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be able to service between 114 and 120 aircraft movements per hour so as to provide space to increase and maintain OTP of all airlines operating at this airport.
