President Joko Widodo Supports the Development Plan of Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport in Purbalingga

PURBALINGGA - President Joko Widodo today, Monday (23/4) reviewed a plan to develop General Besar Sudirman Airport in Wirasaba-Purbalingga accompanied by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, PUPR Minister Mochamad Basoeki Hadimoeljono, KSAU Yuyu Sutisna, Deputy of Financial Services, Survey Services and Consultants of the Ministry of BUMN Gatot Trihargo, Regent of Purbalingga H. Tasdi and President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin.

Jenderal Besar Soedirman Airport is 11 km from the center of Purbalingga and stands on an area of ​​115 hectares which is currently a type C military air base managed by the Air Force. Current conditions and facilities owned by Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport include grass runways measuring 850 m x 50 m, aprons measuring 100 m x 45 m, taxiways 30 m x 25 m, and only able to service Casa 212 type aircraft.

President Jokowi asked PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) as an SOE to develop Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport to complete construction by the end of 2019. "It is hoped that with the General Besar Soedirman Airport it can benefit 9 Regencies and Cities in Central Java, Purbalingga, "Banjar Negara, Kebumen, Banyumas, Pemalang, Tegal, Brebes, Wonosoba and Tegal city and new growth points emerged in Purbalingga and its surroundings", said Jokowi.

The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, during his visit to accompany the president also explained, "The Ministry of Transportation strongly supports the efforts to develop Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport, especially how to maximize and support air transport in Java."

It is planned that the development of the Sudirman General Airport will be expanded to be larger and for civil aviation, namely the construction of a runway measuring 1600 mx 30 m, construction of an apron measuring 70 mx 70 m, construction of a taxiway measuring 85 mx 15 m, and construction of a passenger terminal with an area of ​​3000 m2 300,000 passengers per year.

Gatot Trihargo, Deputy of Financial Services, Survey and Consultation Services at the BUMN Ministry, said, "This airport is very promising to be developed and we see that what PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) has done is in line with the spirit of the ministry, BUMN Present to the Country".

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) 's President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said, "The President is very supportive for the development of this airport in order to create connectivity between regions, improve the quality of air transport, and of course open up the potential of other Central Java regions, Purbalingga. With an investment of Rp. 350 billion, we want to present General Besar Sudirman Airport in a more modern version and have good service standards for service users. "

In addition to the air side, other supporting facilities will also be built such as a parking space for 4092 m2 car and motorcycle vehicles that can accommodate as many as 70 car vehicles and 172 motor vehicles.

"With the dimensions of the runway to be built and extended to 1600 m x 30 m at Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport, later this airport will be able to serve flights with the ATR-72 type aircraft," Awaluddin added.

The inspired concept of the Joglo house, which is a traditional Central Javanese house combined with three Joglo types, namely Joglo Limasan, symbolizes the citizens of Guyub, Joglo Mengkurat as a welcome sign, and Joglo Ageng which is a symbol of Mount Slamet. This terminal will also adopt various elements of local wisdom, namely batik, carving, and wayang.

The construction of terminals, runways and other supporting facilities will begin to be carried out after the signing of the Asset Handover and Handover of Operations from the Air Force to PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero).

The construction of the General Sudirman Airport by PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) will be expected to contribute to the Purbalingga region in matters including:

- Reducing disparities between regions through connectivity and maritime affairs;

- Strengthening regional infrastructure to increase regional economic growth through key sectors such as Tourism and Industry;

- An important role in attracting potential investors, both domestic and foreign, to invest in the Purbalingga region; and

- Integrate BUMN businesses under BUMN Synergy so that they can support the growth of BUMN performance in the future.

"In addition to airport development, we will also see the potential of airlines to open flights from and to Purbalingga. Given that Purbalingga has an attractive tourism destination that will be able to encourage tourism potential in the Central Java region which is rich in culinary tourism, cultural tourism and historical tourism, "Awaluddin said.
