New Minangkabau International Airport Terminal, Padang is Ready to Open in February 2020

30 Nov 2019

Jakarta - The new terminal at the Minangkabau International Airport is ready to open in the context of soft operation in February 2020. Until now, the progress of the work has reached around 60%.

The new terminal for passenger aircraft was built right next to the existing terminal.

Later, new terminals and existing terminals will be connected so that a redesign of the layout of the terminal building is also done to ensure the smooth flow of departure and arrival of passengers on domestic and international routes.

After the new terminal and the existing terminal are connected, the Minangkabau International Airport has a capacity of 5.7 million passenger aircraft each year, or a significant increase compared to the current only 2.2 million passengers per year.

"In February 2020, a new terminal is ready to open for soft operations, then in September 2020 it is ready for the ultimate operation. The new terminal will be connected to the existing terminal, and of course there will also be a revitalization of the existing terminal, "said President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin while reviewing the progress of the construction of the new terminal at the Minangkabau International Airport, Sunday 30 November 2019.

"The number of passengers in 2018 has reached around 4.2 million people, while the existing capacity is only around 2.2 million people per year. We hope that with the new terminal making the capacity to 5.7 million people per year, the standard of service and comfort of flights to passengers can improve. "

In addition to building a new terminal, PT Angkasa Pura II has also completed 100% apron development.

The apron was expanded to 92,250 square meters so that it has 15 aircraft parking stands, compared to only 8 parking stands previously. The current parking stand can accommodate medium-sized aircraft (narrow body) such as Boeing 737 and Airbus 320, to wide body aircraft (wide body) such as Boeing 747, Boeing 777, and Airbus A330.

"Through the construction of a new terminal and the expansion of the apron, we are optimistic that the Minangkabau International Airport will be more optimal in supporting Padang and West Sumatra, as one of the main tourist destinations in Indonesia," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

"International flights to and from Padang each year continue to increase, including this year. We are trying to improve international route connectivity next year, besides of course also domestic routes, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

In Semester I / 2019, the number of passengers on international routes reached 166,209 people, an increase of 24.26% compared to Semester II / 2018. International Hajj and Umrah flights have also increased in line with the use of wide body aircraft by airlines.
