Jenderal Besar Soedirman Airport: Mount Slamet and Serayu River Complimenting The Terminal Design, Air Side Construction Exceeds Target

05 Feb 2020

Jakarta - The construction of General Besar Soedirman's Airport in Purbalingga, Central Java, went smoothly and exceeded the target.

The latest progress, the concept of aircraft passenger terminal design was approved in a meeting between PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) President Director Muhammad Awaluddin, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Purbalingga Regent Dyah Hayuning Pratiwi, and Lanud J.B Commander. Sudirman Lt. Col. Ari Sulanjana.

The meeting was held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, in Semarang which is the capital of the province of Central Java.

"In general, the Governor of Central Java and the Regent of Purbalingga have agreed with the design proposed by PT Angkasa Pura II for adopting the culture of Purbalingga and Central Java," said PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin.

The concept of the terminal design of Jenderal Besar Soedirman Airport was inspired by Mount Slamet and the Serayu River.

"Mount Slamet is a mountain that unites Purbalingga Regency with the surrounding districts. Meanwhile, the Serayu River for the Banyumas community has a very important meaning related to the universe. "

General Besar Soedirman Airport itself will indeed open air transportation access for Barlingmascakeb, namely Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, Banyumas, Cilacap and Kebumen.

"In the passenger terminal building, Mount Slamet was transformed into a Joglo roof in the middle. Meanwhile the Serayu River is transformed into a curved shape as a roof on the left and right. We call this whole design concept as Geometric Dynamic Meet, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The terminal also adopts a copper color on Purbalingga's verandah fence, as well as the natural color of the natural conditions of Purbalingga.

In addition, the interior of the terminal is enriched with distinctive purbalingga carving ornaments, Batik Gowa Lawa motifs, and Wayang Suket handicrafts.

"Not to forget, the interior concept carries the shape of a stretcher that was adapted to be geometric. We know that the stretcher is a symbol of the power of General General Sudirman who never gave up during the guerrilla war, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said the terminal design has prioritized local wisdom and culture.

"We hope that General Besar Airport Sudirman will become a new pride and support the economy in Central Java."

Purbalingga Regent Dyah Hayuning Pratiwi said the presence of General Besar Airport Sudirman had been long awaited.

"The people of Purbalingga and the ex-Banyumas Residency have been waiting for the operation of this airport," said the Regent of Purbalingga.

In total, the passenger terminal has an area of 1,353 square meters.

The terminal capacity can accommodate around 200,000 passenger aircraft every year.

Air Side Development
The progress of the development of the air side is currently exceeding the target.

As of February 2, 2020, construction is targeted to reach 21.67% but in fact the current realization is even higher at 44.85%.

The development on the air side was a runway project measuring 1,600 x 30 meters (construction progress of 52.73%), then domestic apron measuring 69x103 meters and taxiway measuring 25x110 meters (progress 39.42%), and apron and taxiway of the Indonesian Air Force (progress 44 , 23%).

Muhammad Awaluddin said that PT Angkasa Pura II indeed accelerated the construction of runways to serve ATR 72 aircraft and the like so that the airport could be used to serve passengers during the Lebaran Transport 2020 period.

"The runway will be completed so that General Besar Soedirman Airport can operate in a limited way for the Lebaran 2020 Transport, by utilizing the existing Air Terminal terminal building."

To ensure that limited operations run smoothly, stakeholders plan to hold a focus group discussion (FGD) in order to obtain various inputs. The FGD is planned to be held in early March 2020 by presenting stakeholders, namely the Ministry of Transportation, Airport Authority, Provincial Government, local government, airlines, groundhandling parties, travel agents and others.
