Homecoming Smoothly at AP II Airport, Number of Airplane Passengers Keeps Skyrocketing Until Now Reaching 3.14 Million People

09 May 2022

The movement of passengers during the Angleb period at AP II airport is believed to have exceeded the target

Jakarta - Aviation traffic at PT Angkasa Pura II airport during the Eid transportation period since the homecoming flow to the return flow continues to increase.

On D-10 to D+5 (22 April - 8 May 2022) or in just 17 days, the cumulative number of passenger movements at AP II airport reached around 3.14 million people with aircraft movements reaching 25,122 flights.

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest airport in Indonesia, the movement of passengers during that period was recorded at 2 million people with aircraft movements of 15,873 flights.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the increase in flight traffic during this angleb period could be managed properly by all stakeholders.

"We are very grateful that all stakeholders at AP II airport can closely synergize and collaborate in the success of Eid transportation to take homecomers to their hometowns and welcome their return home safely and smoothly."

"Through various strategies such as setting flight time slots, optimizing airside operations, adjusting airport operations as a whole and so on, AP II and stakeholders are able to accommodate the high demand for flight seats in Angleb 2022," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

This close collaboration between stakeholders also received appreciation from the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, who said that despite the relatively limited number of aircraft, stakeholders could still serve the needs of the community.

Meanwhile, flight traffic at AP II airport, especially on return flows, continues to increase which exceeds the target, for example at the peak of the return flow on May 8, 2022.

The initial target is that passenger movements in all AP II airports at the peak of the return flow on May 8 are predicted to be 199,857 people. The realization, on May 8, the number of movements at AP II airports reached 233,582 people.

"Today, May 9, 2022, there will still be a peak of backflow where we estimate the number of passenger movements in all AP II airports to reach around 160,000 - 180,000 people. Especially at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, there are around 133,000 people," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added, "We see that the public's interest in using air transportation in 2022 is very high. AP II itself continuously urges travelers to use air transportation, because air transportation has 3 advantages: flexibility, capacity and connectivity.”

Air transportation has the flexibility where travelers can determine the flight date, departure time and using which airline. In addition, the capacity in air transportation can be adjusted according to demand through extra flights, optimization of slot time and so on. Air transportation also has connectivity in every province in Indonesia.

In line with the high public interest in air transportation, AP II estimates that the movement of passengers for the Angleb period on April 22 - May 13, 2022 at AP II airports can be more than the initial target of 3.42 million people.

"In line with the high public interest, we estimate that the number of passenger movements in Angleb 2022 at AP II airport can be more than 3.42 million people," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin said AP II was grateful because the synergy between stakeholders could ensure the smooth implementation of the angleb at AP II airport and thanked travelers who also supported all stakeholders during this peak season.
