Revival of Indonesian Aviation, Aircraft Passengers at AP II Airport In Just 5 Days Nataru Transport Translucent Over 1.13 Million People

The Minister of Transportation said that the Nataru transportation at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was going well

Jakarta - The implementation of 2022/2023 Christmas and New Year transportation at PT Angkasa Pura II's 20 airports is running smoothly with flight traffic increasing significantly.

AP II noted that the number of passenger movements at 20 airports in just 5 days of Nataru transportation or on H-6 to H-2 Christmas (19-23 December 2022) has penetrated 1.13 million people or an increase of around 43% compared to the same period last year as many as 786,538 people. Meanwhile, aircraft movements reached 8,727 flights or an increase of 26.3%.

Especially at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the busiest airport in Indonesia, the number of passengers on H-6 to H-2 reached 699,128 people, an increase of up to 43%, and aircraft movements reached 4,929 flights or an increase of 28%.

The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the high flight traffic during the Nataru transportation period at Soekarno-Hatta Airport indicated the awakening of aviation in Indonesia from the intense pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In particular, I went to Soekarno-Hatta Airport to ensure that the Nataru transportation went well, from what I have noticed, God willing, Nataru will go well and God willing, the service will be good."

"From the report I received, the number of flights (flights) yesterday (at Soekarno-Hatta Airport) has exceeded 1,000 flights, which has reached 1,040 flights per day. Today maybe more. This is a sign of the awakening of Indonesian aviation," said the Minister of Transportation while visiting Soekarno Hatta Airport on Friday, December 23, 2022.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said this significant increase in air traffic could be accommodated properly thanks to the close collaboration between AP II and stakeholders, as well as support from travelers.

"In the midst of an increase in flight traffic during the peak season period, AP II and stakeholders collaborate closely to ensure operational and service standards are maintained. We thank all aircraft passengers who have supported Nataru transportation at the AP II airport," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Terminal capacity balancing
Muhammad Awaluddin added that the increase in air traffic during the Nataru transportation period was a sign of the growing enthusiasm of national aviation.

In line with that, AP II is again preparing a capacity rebalancing program for the passenger terminal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"According to the direction of the Minister of Transportation, AP II has resumed balancing terminal capacity at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The program has been implemented where all Lion Air Group international flights have moved from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2F, so that currently there are around 40 flights/day (take off and landing) at Terminal 2F."

"Furthermore, flights at Terminal 2F will be added to 70 flights/day by moving the international flight operations of a number of airlines from Terminal 3," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

As part of the terminal capacity balancing program, AP II also opened an Umrah lounge which is close to the Airport Train Station.

"We made arrangements by presenting an Umrah lounge to provide comfort for Umrah pilgrims and ushers," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Through these various steps, the distribution of air traffic can be carried out evenly in Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 so that each terminal now operates more optimally in providing services.

During the flight recovery period, AP II together with stakeholders, especially airlines, will also discuss flight time slots (schedules for departure and arrival of aircraft) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"Soekarno-Hatta Airport itself has 1,200 flight time slots every day that airlines can take advantage of. We will discuss with the airline regarding optimal utilization of slot time," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The program to balance terminal capacity and optimize flight time slots at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is one of AP II's various efforts in responding to the challenges of the pandemic.

Muhammad Awaluddin said conditions since the COVID-19 pandemic were very dynamic and AP II could always make various adjustments in response to existing conditions.

"AP II has strong operations and strong organization at all airports so that it can quickly adapt to various conditions," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
