December 2022, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Dominates the Asean Aviation Market and Enters the Top 10 World's Busiest Airports

Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport still dominates the aviation market in the Asean region and is one of the busiest airports in the world.

Based on a report by OAG Aviation, a London-based air travel data provider, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is ranked 1st on the list of the busiest airports in Asean after having a flight seat capacity of 2.15 million in December 2022.

Meanwhile, Flightsfrom.com, which is a provider of route data and airline schedules in the world, places Soekarno-Hatta Airport as the 9th busiest airport in the world with scheduled flight departures of 579 flights every day.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said flight traffic at AP II airports including Soekarno-Hatta Airport was very high in December 2022.

"December 2022 recorded the highest flight traffic among other months throughout 2022. This was driven by improving conditions amid the pandemic and the 2022/2023 Christmas and New Year's holiday peak season."

"We are grateful that thanks to the support of all stakeholders, Soekarno-Hatta Airport can manage the high demand for air traffic well and pay attention to aspects of safety, security and service to aircraft passengers," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

During January - December 2022 the number of passenger movements at Soekarno-Hatta Airport reached 40.54 million passengers, an increase of around 57% compared to January - December 2021.

In 2022, the 5 busiest domestic routes at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are from and to Denpasar (4.32 million passengers), Deli Serdang (3.28 million passengers), Surabaya (2.62 million passengers), Makassar (2.55 million passengers) and Pontianak (1.62 million passengers).

Meanwhile, the 5 busiest international routes at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are to and from Singapore (1.68 million passengers), Jeddah (945,943 passengers), Kuala Lumpur (863,772 passengers), Doha (446,177 passengers) and Medina (441,445 passengers).

Muhammad Awaluddin said the flight recovery at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was taking place in stages and continuously, supported by a strong organization in the midst of a pandemic and the collaboration of all stakeholders.

"AP II and stakeholders can manage flight recovery at Soekarno-Hatta Airport well, so that the growth in air traffic can be carried out in a sustainable manner and increase gradually to its peak in December 2022."

"Increased flight demand can be accommodated by the availability of flight time slots and facilities at AP II airport, the readiness of the airline fleet, support from AirNav Indonesia as a provider of flight navigation services, ground handling alertness, and full support from regulators as well as the TNI and Polri," Muhammad Awaluddin said.

Cumulatively throughout 2022, the number of passenger movements at AP II's 20 airports has reached around 62 million passengers, or has skyrocketed 100% compared to 2021 of 31 million passengers.
